[Art-instructors] COVID & Absence MEMO from Chair - Please Read

Dear Faculty and Graduate Students,





I know you have all had numerous trainings and meetings last week that included discussions about teaching during our current, extended COVID-times, but I have heard that there is still confusion, particularly regarding quarantine protocols, student absences, remote teaching, and make-up lab hour procedures for grads who have to quarantine themselves. Because of this, I decided to personally send out this second email to try to clarify a couple of COVID related issues and procedures.



First, as you know, the state has set out numerous mandates that make it illegal to do or require certain things from students, while also requiring full face-to-face return to work of all state employees, of which all of our MFAs are because they all have tuition waivers and are paid a stipend for either their GA or TA work.



All of the information in this document is based on the latest (8-22-2021) interpretations of the state mandates which are filtered through the University and Dean’s level to the Chairs and Directors. The memo also refers to a document by Professor Jill Pable regarding class participation/performance expectations. I am attaching it here for your reference.



For grads- if after reading this and all of the other information we have shared, you are still not sure or concerned about something, please reach out to the MFA Director and/or your supervisors — they are there to help you.
