Job Advertisement
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure track
Scholarly Communications Librarian and Librarian Assistant Professor faculty position in the
Department of Public Services, KSU Library System which begins December 2019.

Distinguishing Features of this Position:
The Kennesaw State University Library System seeks a collegial, dynamic, flexible, service oriented, and collaborative entry-level librarian for the open position of scholarly
communications librarian. KSU is a multi-campus library system and this person is a member of
the Department of Public Services and is under the direct supervision of the Director of
Reference and Instructional Services.

The successful candidate will have a keen sense of the evolving role of the challenges of today's
complex higher education library in the digital age, and a strong interest in the extensive
scholarly communications landscape including digital publishing and preservation, open access
platforms, open educational resources, open data, copyright, and related intellectual property
issues. The candidate will have a strong desire to provide excellence in user-centered services in
order to assist in student success and meet the University's commitment to student recruitment, retention, progression, and graduation.

The home location for this position is the Kennesaw Campus; however, this individual will be
expected to spend time working at the Marietta Campus as needed and may travel to other KSU sites as necessary. This position requires working a minimum of 40 hours a week and a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends, as needed.

Major Responsibilities:

Librarianship (90%)

1)Develop policies and programming for library-wide and university-wide scholarly
communications programs, in collaboration with other librarians as appropriate. Work closely
with librarians and collegiate liaisons to promote faculty awareness of scholarly communication
issues.

2)Develop marketing, informational tools, and training workshops that support these initiatives.

3)Stay informed of and keep library and faculty up to date on trends, legislation, and changes in
intellectual property rights, scholarly publishing, and information technologies that affect access
and preservation of scholarly information.

4)Collaborate with the Collection Development Unit to manage, promote, and increase open
educational and open access resources.

5)Serve as the lead librarian on copyright and intellectual property developments and issues.

6)Provide research assistance (in person, via chat, or other communication modes) to students
and other members of the KSU community.

7)Teach information literacy and library-use classes to undergraduate students.

8)Utilize excellent communication and problem-solving skills to work effectively within a
culturally diverse community of library users and colleagues. Work on the Teaching Engagement Group with RIS Unit colleagues.

9)Participate in the Undergraduate Collegiate Liaison Program as a member of one or more
specific collegiate teams.

Service (5%)

Perform KSU Library System service, KSU University service, or professional service for an
average of approximately 60 hours annually for 5% of duties.

Scholarship (5%)

Participate in negotiating scholarship, research, and/or creative activity with your supervisor and library administration. Produce annual evidence that scholarship, research, and/or creative
activity has been professionally published or shared.

Required Qualifications:
1.Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program
or the foreign equivalent.

2.Demonstrated exceptional written, oral, presentation, teaching, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate appropriately within, and outside of, the library.

3.Experience working collaboratively with multiple constituencies, including, but not limited to:
students, instructional faculty, university staff, and librarian peers. Ability to function effectively
in a team environment.

4.Aptitude for detailed work in addition to strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.

5.Ability to meet library faculty standards for job performance, scholarship, service, and
professional development at the Library Assistant Professor rank.

6.Creativity in problem solving and enthusiasm for self-directed study.

7.Working knowledge of Office suite applications including spreadsheets.

Desired Qualifications:

1.Experience with scholarly communication duties.

2.Two years of professional experience in an academic library.

3.Academic library instruction and / or reference experience.

4.Awareness of national and international trends, legislation, and pending changes in intellectual property rights, commercial and academic/research scholarly publishing.

5.Awareness of information technologies that affect access and preservation of scholarly
information.

6.Working knowledge of copyright and intellectual property developments and issues.

7.Creativity in problem-solving and enthusiasm for self-directed study.
