Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure track
Reference Coordinator and Librarian Assistant Professor faculty position in the Department of
Public Services, KSU Library System which begins December 2019.

Distinguishing Features of this Position:

The KSU Library System seeks a collegial, flexible, service-oriented, and collaborative entry level
librarian eager to join a multi-campus library system with a keen sense of the evolving role
of libraries in the digital age. The successful candidate will be a member of the KSU Public
Services Department and work under the direct supervision of the Director of Research and
Instructional Services. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to provide excellence
in user-centered services in order to assist in student success and meet the University's
commitment to student recruitment retention, progression, and graduation.

Working collaboratively as a member of the Research and Instructional Services Unit, the
selected individual will have demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current trends in
undergraduate reference services, including multiple reference service models, distance-learning support, and services tailored to different population groups.

The home location for this position is the Kennesaw Campus. This position requires working a
minimum of 40 hours a week and a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. This
position requires some travel to various KSU learning sites on an as needed basis.

Major Responsibilities:

Librarianship (90%)
1)Coordination: Coordinate the provision of reference services with contributions that support
excellent and equitable library service at two campuses, while improving overall effectiveness
and efficiencies. Create, administer, and maintain reference schedules. Work with the Library
Assistant for Research and Instructional Services to handle schedule changes and shift coverage. Provide and organize training in reference services, policies, and procedures for new librarians. Review, write, update, and post policies and procedures for reference services with appropriate input from colleagues, the Director of Research and Instructional Services, and Library Administration.

2)Virtual Reference: Work closely with the Virtual Reference Librarian to coordinate chat
reference and the FAQ system to provide consistent reference services across platforms.

3)Research Appointments: Work with other RIS members to coordinate one-on-one research
appointments for undergraduate students, including maintaining the research appointment room.

4)Assessment: Work with the Assessment Librarian to create, analyze, plan, and evaluate
reference services as needed.

5)Teamwork: Utilize excellent communication and problem solving skills to work effectively
within a culturally diverse community of library users and colleagues. Work on the Student
Engagement Workgroup and with RIS Unit colleagues.

6)Professional Development: Ability to be self-directed in pursuing professional development to
maintain awareness of changes and trends in the profession. Consider applications of
professional trends for KSU Library System reference services.

7)Liaison Program: Participate in the Undergraduate Collegiate Liaison Program as a member of
one or more specific subject teams.

8)Reference: Provide research assistance (in person, via chat, or other communication modes) to students and other members of the KSU community.

9)Instruction: Teach information literacy and library-use classes to undergraduate students.

Service (5%)

Perform KSU Library System service, KSU University service, or professional service for an
average of approximately 60 hours annually for 5% of duties.

Scholarship (5%)

Participate in negotiating scholarship, research, and/or creative activity appropriate at the rank of Librarian Assistant Professor, with the approval of your supervisor and library administration.
Produce evidence that scholarship, research, and/or creative activity has been professional
published or shared each year.

Required Qualifications:

1.Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program
or the foreign equivalent,

2.Demonstrated exceptional written, oral, presentation, teaching, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate appropriately within, and outside of, the library.

3.Ability to function effectively in a team environment. Ability to work collaboratively with
multiple constituencies, including, but not limited to: students, instructional faculty, university
staff, and librarian peers.

4.Knowledge of current and emerging professional library principles, methods, procedures, and
best practices, especially in relation to reference services and undergraduate student needs.

5.Aptitude for detailed work in addition to strong organizational, planning, and time management skills.

6.Ability to meet library faculty standards for job performance, scholarship, and service.

7.Creativity in problem solving and enthusiasm for self-directed study.

Desired Qualifications:

1.Two years of professional experience in an academic library.

2.Academic library instruction and reference experience.

3.Experience working with vendors such as those providing chat services.

4.Project management experience.

5.Experience working with multicultural student populations.
