Job Advertisement
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a twelve-month, non-tenure track
Liaison Coordinator and Librarian Assistant Professor faculty position in the Department of
Library Resources, KSU Library System which begins December 2019.

Distinguishing Features of this Position:
The Kennesaw State University Library System seeks a dynamic, flexible, service-oriented, and
collaborative entry level librarian for the open position of undergraduate collegiate liaison
coordinator.

KSU is a multi-campus library system and this person is a member of the Department of
Resources Management and is under the direct supervision of the Director of Collection
Development Services. This person helps guide the library to meet the challenges of today's
complex higher education library and is responsible for working collaboratively to achieve the
KSU University and Library System missions, goals, and objectives.

The home location for this position is the Kennesaw Campus; however, this individual will be
expected to spend time at the Marietta Campus and other KSU sites as needed.

This position requires working a minimum of 40 hours a week and a flexible schedule, including
some nights and weekends, as needed.

Major Responsibilities:

Liaison Coordinator Duties (30%)
1.Coordinate the Collegiate Liaison Program for the library system to include assigning and
adjusting specific liaison assignments, acting as the point person for questions about the
program, and troubleshooting problems from faculty or librarians.

2.Train undergraduate liaisons on their roles and duties. Create and maintain resources for
liaisons such as an online tool kit, articles, or best practices.

3.Market the liaison program to the KSU community in conjunction with the Strategic Marketing & Outreach Librarian. Create emails, literature, and marketing materials as needed.

4.Facilitate overall communication with the undergraduate liaisons, the Director of Collection
Development, and library administration.

5.Assist the Electronic Resources Collection Development Librarian with marketing new
database acquisitions to the KSU community.

6.Create procedural documents and workflows and recommend policies to improve library
services.

7.Compile statistics on behalf of the Director of Collection Development and the Assessment
Librarian related to the Liaison Program.

Librarianship Duties (60%)

1.Schedule and lead training for selectors including facilitating product training from vendors.

2.Assist the Director of Collection Development with spending down the monographs budget by
the end of the fiscal year.

3.Annually update the Databases by Subject list.

4.Manage biannual database trials in collaboration with the Director of Collection Development, the Electronic Resources Collection Development Librarian, the Strategic
Marketing & Outreach Librarian, and Librarians.

5.Manage demand-driven acquisitions for the KSU Library System, including monthly deduplication review and annual usage analysis.

6.Provide collection development training to library employees as needed, in conjunction with
the Collection Development Unit.

7.Support and encourage student success, retention, and progression to graduation by developing library collections, both physical and electronic, in assigned liaison area(s).

8.Provide research assistance and reference services in adherence with the KSU Reference
Training Guidelines.

9.Provide information literacy instruction, if applicable, in accordance with industry best practices and protocols established by the KSU Library System.

10.Serve as Collections, Outreach, or Instruction Liaison for assigned areas or subject specialties
using the best methods acceptable to each area and in accordance with KSU Library System
policies. Collaborate with assigned Collegiate Team to communicate library events, services,
instruction, tools, and resources via email, departmental meetings, or other modes of
communication. Serve as backup to other Collegiate Team members as needed.

11.Create and update research guides as assigned by liaison areas, service, instruction activities,
and/or other librarianship responsibilities in accordance with protocols, policies, and best practices established by the KSU Library System.

12.Continuously update skills and knowledge of current best practices in academic librarianship
for self and others in the organization.

Service (5%)

Perform KSU Library System service, KSU University service, and library profession service for
an average of approximately 60 hours annually.

Scholarship (5%)

Participate in scholarship, research, and creative activity appropriate at the rank of Librarian
Assistant Professor, with the approval of your supervisor and Library Administration. Produce
annually, evidence that scholarship, research, and creative activity have been professionally
published, presented, reviewed, or shared.

Required Qualifications:

1.Master's degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program
or the foreign equivalent.

2.Demonstrated exceptional written, oral, presentation, teaching, and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate appropriately within, and outside of, the library.

3.Experience working collaboratively with multiple constituencies, including, but not limited to:
students, instructional faculty, university staff, and librarian peers. Ability to function effectively
in a team environment.

4.Aptitude for detailed work and multitasking in addition to strong analytical, organizational,
team management, leadership, project planning, and team building skills.

5.Ability to meet library faculty standards for librarianship, job performance, scholarship,
service, and professional development at the Librarian Assistant Professor rank.

6.Working knowledge of Office suite applications including spreadsheets.

Desired Qualifications

1.Experience with academic liaison duties.

2.Experience with academic collection development.

3.Knowledge of current professional library principles, methods, procedures, and best practices, especially pertaining to outreach and collection development.

4.Awareness of emerging technologies and trends for academic libraries.

5.Knowledge of research methodologies, quantitative and qualitative research methods, and
statistical tools, such as SAS or equivalent.

6.Creativity in problem-solving and enthusiasm for self-directed study.
