Hello all!


This year’s first Research Night is on Tuesday, September 10!  Come out and hear Daniel Luedtke (Assistant Professor, Department of Art) and Jay Fox (Press Manager, Small Craft Advisory Press) talk about their research and work. Tuesday, September 10, 7 – 8:30 p.m.


Daniel Luedtke recently joined the faculty of the FSU Department of Art as an Assistant Professor. Luedtke is an interdisciplinary artist and musician. His work addresses how illness affects a person’s experience of the world. Within a range of formal strategies, from printmaking, drawing, mixed media sculpture, installation and video, he uses collage and assemblage to illustrate how medical and insurance industries create and arrange our understanding of health and wellness. Previously, Luedtke was a Lecturer in the Contemporary Practices Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Research areas include: Printmaking, Mixed Media Sculpture, Drawing, Video, Electronic Music, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical and Insurance Industries, HIV/AIDS, Feminist and Queer Histories and Activism

Jay Fox is the new Press Manager for the Small Craft Advisory Press (SCAP). Jay is from Morganton, North Carolina. He received his BFA in printmaking from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2008. In 2014, he received his MFA at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Print and Narrative Forms. His work in handmade paper, prints, and sculpture has been exhibited nationally. Jay joins SCAP after five years of working at Penland School of Craft as the Print, Letterpress, Books, and Paper coordinator.



Tuesday, October 8, 7 – 8:30 p.m.


Tra Bouscaren recently joined the faculty of the FSU Department of Art as Assistant Professor of Critical Practices. Bouscaren is a post-disciplinary artist focused on American spectacle at the crossroads of waste culture and the surveillance state. Prior to joining the faculty at FSU, Bouscaren taught at the University of Arizona, the University of California at Santa Cruz, the University of Texas at El Paso, SUNY Buffalo, the University of Pennsylvania, and the National Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Teaching areas include: Installation Art, Aesthetics and Critical Theory, Media History and Theory, Assemblage, Provisional Practices, Video Art, Interactive Media, and New Genres.

Cheri Marks is the 2019-2020 SCAP Resident Artist. Marks is a printer, binder and papermaker. She received a BA from Florida State University with a concentration in Printmaking in 2017. She is a student at The University of Alabama working toward her MFA in Book Arts. Cheri makes prints and artist books under the name Blue Section Press.
