Yes, thank you for reviving. CFCC has extended telepractice through August 31, 2020 to allow for Summer timelines. No word on fall yet but I would bet they will need to extend again.
At UL Lafayette we are doing all telepractice (mostly groups) through the summer semester. We are also using Simucase for diagnostic and medical based skills. Simucase is pretty good with standardized tests, reading images, charts, consulting, etc. That takes more work on the part of the supervisor than we first imagined. It's kinda like an interesting video game...
We are extending a large amount of scholarships to our clients because of the economic impact of COVID19 and to offset the fact that we don't all feel 100% comfortable charging for skills we are developing. This is just an easier way to navigate our billing system for our summer camps/projects. And we can track how many scholarships we allowed as part of what we are doing to assist the community.
We did ask our students to complete telepractice "modules" as an orientation for the summer semester. We gave them the sites/codes for free webinars on speechtherapy.com (I think) and had them watch 3 hours of telepractice continuing education. Then we had them construct scripts and materials for potential clients in the summer. All as a way to have them test out computer/internet capabilities so we can hopefully plan through some issues before the clients log in.
We are doing more groups than usual in the summer to cover the 100% supervision. All on one screen seems to be allowed for supervision according to the last meeting I went to with CFCC- May 11th.
Thanks for all the great information.

Rebecca,
Thank you for reviving this thread because it has been on my mind now that I’m working on a fall clinic plan. Honestly, I am holding my breath a bit as there is no telling how the reopening will go and whether this plan, once made, will be permanent.
Good luck to everyone with the ups and downs and do stay safe out there.

Lynn - Thank you for always keeping us on track with all things CFCC!
I apologize for resurrecting an old email thread but wanted to consult the SEUCE Hive mind on telepractice. At RU plans are being developed for face to face instruction in the fall, with precautions in place which are being defined over the next month. It is still undetermined if our university clinic will be open to see patients in person. I know many of you are likely in the same boat and making contingency plans for your contingency plans. That said, am I correct in concluding that even if the CFCC doesn’t expand the telesupervision allowance past August 1st, we can continue training our students through the use of telepractice if the supervisor and student are in the same building, albeit in separate rooms with 100% supervision on separate computers. It’s a very real possibility that my students will be back in some capacity but that the community members will not be permitted on campus. Curious to hear what others are planning!
Thanks-
Rebecca

Hot off the press…. CFCC has extended the telesupervision to August 1. That should be public today.

At RU we are using Simucase for our grad students this semester and just a few students are doing telepractice so that can meet requirements before graduation as they were too close to their 75 cap. This summer we are doing more Simucase and hope to do telepractice, but as of right now we only have approval through the CFCC to use telepractice until May 31, 2020… so are waiting for that to extend. Really hoping they extend through summer soon so we can start planning and include more telepractice. All telepractice services will be free.
Stay safe everyone!

Thank you for sharing this information. I will definitely look into LessonPix. As a side, we are not allowed to use Zoom at USC, per legal, due to the amount of Zoom-bombing the FBI is reporting. OCR just came out with something on it yesterday. I will send out the information so everyone has it. Thanks, again.

I so appreciate you all sharing with us at Texas Woman's what your clinic is doing and planning to do. If nothing else, it's nice to know that we are all at least thinking the same thing and trying to come up with the same Plans B, C, and D!
Danielle, in answer to your question about how to involve the students, we had several Zoom meetings with our clinic students about telepractice and had several links to videos demonstrating telepractice. This was after our clinic faculty met with colleagues that are using telepractice. We have linked our students up with LessonPix (we do that when they first start clinic, not as a result of COVID-19) and LessonPix has done a phenomenal job of making all of their materials downloadable as a PowerPoint slide. This means that it is compatible with screen sharing on Zoom and the students took off with it! We are seeing about 50% of our clients via telepractice. The students have come up with all kinds of materials and by enabling the client to have control of the screen, the client can move the game token, click on artic materials, and even click on an on-line dice to roll the dice. The client, the student, and the supervisor are all on Zoom at the same time and the students have done a great job! I allow time before the session to meet with the student in case they have any questions, and then after the session, the student and I talk about the session, the objectives, activities, all on Zoom.
As Lynn said, we have been talking about adding telepractice to our clinic experiences for the students and this just pushed us into it. "No time like the present!" Thank you all for sharing!

Here at USC-Columbia we too will have on-line classes this summer and our campus clinic will remain closed. We are not implementing telepractice for our spring clients. We do plan to implement it this summer. Charging will be on a case by case basis as some clients will be easier to work with via telepractice than others. Our current issue is how to involve students from afar. They have access to the platform we are using but I cannot visualize how this will work, not to mention that our students are not trained in telepractice. Are others planning to involve students for more than just observation? If so, what training have they had? We are planning to use Simucase as our back-up plan. Thanks for any advice/comments. These are interesting times for sure.

Hello All,
Like many of you, we have had crash courses in telepractice and we are finishing out the semester of our on-campus clinic by using telepractice. We are not charging our clients' families for this service as we felt we certainly were not experts in telepractice and the families had not originally signed up to receive services via telepractice.
However, the decision has been made that we will be providing classes and clinic services online this summer as it is just too uncertain how long COVID-19 is going to keep us all sheltering in place. We would like to know if other University clinics are currently charging for telepractice services, or are going to be charging for these services as we move forward.
We appreciate any thoughts, advice, experiences, you have to share on this topic. While telepractice is not new....it's definitely new to us! Thank you all!
