Hello all,

At Marshall University, we have collaborated with our local hospital’s School of Medicine and their physician’s practice plan,  Marshall Health to connect with their system, Allscripts.  It was a lengthy and expensive process but we have found it to be an excellent addition to our university clinic for many reasons.

1) It allows our students an opportunity to learn an EH system that they will use in other medical settings in the “real world.”
2) It allows our faculty and students to have access the our clients’ medical record which provides an excellent example of interprofessional collaboration.
3) It allows other providers in the system to see our records!
4) It allows for an online way for our faculty providers to communicate with physicians and other providers to refer clients to us.  This has really increased our referral base!
5) It provides monthly financial reports and stats for each provider.

We met with academic affairs and discussed accreditation and the need to ensure we are training students at the top of their profession and they are paying for 2/3 and we are paying for 1/3 of the cost.
