You are invited to hear Long Xie, Ph.D., speak on "Restoring Hearing with Cochlear Implants in Older Adults: Benefits and Limitations" at the next Institute for Successful Longevity Brown Bag Talk, Today, September 26, at noon.
In his talk, Dr. Xie will briefly discuss the various benefits of cochlear implants to older adults with hearing loss and will also touch on his research program which studied the impact of aging on hearing via cochlear implants. The results will provide the scientific basis for developing effective future interventions to improve hearing and communication abilities in older adults with cochlear implants.
The prevalence of hearing loss increases with advancing age. A cochlear implant (CI) is typically prescribed to treat individuals with severe to profound hearing loss when hearing aids do not provide adequate benefit. Over 736,900 CIs have been implanted worldwide, including about 183,100 in the United States (NIDCD, 2021). The use of CIs is rapidly increasing among older adults.
You can watch his presentation at noon via Zoom at https://fsu.zoom.us/j/93160291808
Dr. Xie, Assistant Professor in the School of Communication Science and Disorders and a Faculty Affiliate of the Institute for Successful Longevity, will take questions from the audience after his talk.
