Call for Papers:
The Impact of Technological Innovation on Biobehavioral and Psychosomatic Medicine

Numerous technological innovations have entered the healthcare system in recent years, and many are of great value in supporting the patient health journey. Still, critical implementation barriers exist at the level of patients, physicians, and healthcare systems. These barriers may hamper widespread use of these innovations in routine clinical practice.

The overall scope of this special issue of Psychosomatic Medicine is to provide a comprehensive overview of technological innovations in psychosomatic research and clinical practice and raise awareness of these innovations so that they may be incorporated into research and clinical practice.

Potential topics for manuscripts submitted to this Special Issue include:

  *   Use of ambulatory technologies in psychosomatic medicine (e.g., portable psychophysiology, wearable digital sensors, geolocation)
  *   Passive mobile sensing and biobehavioral health
  *   Applying technology to personalize interventions and improve patient and caregiver outcomes
  *   Use and impact of consumer-grade monitoring devices on biobehavioral mechanisms of health and disease
  *   Advances in sensor technology (e.g., smart fabrics, flexible membranes, etc.)
  *   Technological innovations impact on health care disparities and equity
  *   Smart homes and psychosomatic medicine
  *   Augmented and virtual reality
  *   Viewpoints on how technologic innovations will shape biobehavioral psychosomatic medicine over the next decade

If you are interested in submitting a manuscript for consideration, please submit a preliminary abstract by December 15, 2021. Abstracts should be up to 250 words and formatted for Psychosomatic Medicine. We will review abstracts and notify authors whether they will be invited to submit a full manuscript for special issue consideration by January 4, 2022, and we request full manuscript submissions by March 23, 2022. We anticipate that most invited papers will later be accepted for publication. However, all papers will be sent out for external review and final acceptance will be based on the evaluation of the Guest Editors and Editor-in-Chief of Psychosomatic Medicine.

Articles will be published ahead-of-print soon after acceptance and later in the print Special Issue (expected in late 2022).
