Hi Folks:

See below for a fuller description from Patricia Born who is looking to team up with an ISL affiliate concerning evaluation of the Florida Ombudsman program for nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult family day care homes. This would likely lead to an interdisciplinary pilot project grant from ISL (due March 23).

Best, Neil

Hi!
I hope to obtain a dataset from the Florida Department of Elder Affairs that contains information about all facility assessments and complain investigations conducted by volunteers in the state long term care ombudsman program. My first objective is to evaluate how changes to the ombudsman duties have affected the number and nature of the complaints filed against nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult family day care homes. For example, ombudsmen usually visited every facility once per year for an annual assessment; a facility would not be visited again unless there was a complaint. Within the past 7-8 years, the program instituted quarterly "visits" that result in more interactions between residents and ombudsmen and more opportunities for ombudsmen to consult with facility staff, e.g., on ensuring that they are meeting resident rights, sharing best practices, etc. I am looking for someone who might be interested in assisting in my evaluation.
Patty

Hi Patty:

Thanks for coming to the meeting and alerting us to that ombudsman project possibility. Can you give us a brief description of what you hope to do so that we can circulate it to the ISL listserv?

Best, Neil
