We will be formally postponing the FACRL “The State of Data Services in Academic Libraries in FL” preconference until next year’s program in 2021.



I still hadn’t reached out to speakers, so NOW I finally feel confident enough to tell them exactly what is up and how we plan to proceed. We will see how many of them are interested in waiting until next year. If many pull out, of which I hope they don’t do, we could always revisit sending another call out for proposals ahead of FLA in 2021. So much uncertainty these days with everything going on. It is hard to even know what 2021 will look like.



One day at a time, I suppose. Many many thanks for all of your work on this committee and I wanted to make sure to give you the first updates so you can keep the FACRL Board abreast of all the things going on. Once I get in touch with the speakers, I will send another note out to you, Renanine, and Alyssa.

Thanks for getting in touch soo quickly. I think pushing off the preconference until we can have the half-day program again in 2021 sounds good. I will inform our speakers that we will hold off until next year’s annual program.

I know how much effort FACRL has put into this preconference and I definitely don't want to hinder your session in any way.  After reviewing our new schedule, I don't see how we can keep your half-day program in tact for this year, however, we are more than happy to move your preconference session to 2021 in its entirety.  I appreciate your understanding with all of the changes.  In the meantime, would FACRL be interested in hosting a webinar for FLA?

I am glad you are reaching out. Thank you for asking, and I hope all is well at your end.



Just to let you know it was a general survey sent to ALL sessions. So, this week the FLA board will meet to discuss all viable options.  As of today nothing is set into stone and we will do our best to keep you/FACRL and all of our sessions in mind. I agree, I cannot imagine being able to compress a preconference session into 30 minutes. I promise we will take that knowledge in account.  So please when you fill out that survey please say “No” you can’t shorten your presentation to 30 minutes.  There should be a follow up question asking why you answered that way. You can say something along the lines of “This is a preconference session which has enough content to last more than 2 hours any reduction in time would serve as a disservice to all involved”. There is a question later on in the survey regarding being fast tracked within the 2021 conference which sounds like an option you are willing to take if need be.



Needless to say, this is strange year but I promise we will reach out to you regarding what will be decided but I know we will do our best to have a wonderful 2020 conference.

I wanted to follow up regarding the survey that was sent out last week regarding the FLA Annual Conference. Since our FACRL Preconference session, “The State of Data Services in Academic Libraries in FL” features speakers from around the state, and with the previous plan to have a half day of solid programming, I thought it would be good to ask you about what FLA is thinking more specifically regarding the possibility of holding the conference virtually now. I noticed on the survey there was a question regarding whether the session could be done in a thirty minute time slot. This session is not one that fits this time constraint. So I wanted to know whether it would be a better idea to push the pre-conference until next year or to see what your other thoughts were so I can better inform our speakers.
