Access Services Librarian-Warren Library-Palm Beach Atlantic University

TYPE:   Full-time, Exempt
LOCATION: West Palm Beach Campus

SUMMARY: Manage the operations of the library’s primary access, service
desk, and stack maintenance. Actively seeks to improve local and
system-wide processes and services; participates in reference and
instructional services by teaching information literacy; and, participates
in evening and weekend duties as necessary.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Access Services

·       Manage daily library operations and front desk activities
including, room reservations, mailings, ordering office supplies, and
overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of office equipment

·       Serve as a first point of contact for all inquiries, providing top
level service to all patrons.

·       Supervise the processes of circulating library collections
according to policies.

·       Coordinate the maintenance of all physical library collections,
including re-shelving, shelf reading, organizing, and intermittent stack
inventory.

·       Administer course reserves as requested by faculty.

·       Interpret library policies to students, faculty, and other patrons.

·       Recruit, oversee, evaluate, and schedule all staff and student
assistants serving in access services.

·       Maintain data utilization and record management of library
resources and services to improve upon user experience and develop needs
assessment activities.

·       Manage data collection for annual reporting and survey responses
including: gather, review, evaluate; and synthesize data submitted by
library personnel.

Reference and Instruction

·       Provide in-person and online reference service and consultation in
areas of research to the learning community.

·       Collaborate with faculty to promote information literacy and
provide patrons library instruction sessions onsite or virtually through
the University’s course management system.

·       Design and lead workshops in the Library’s instruction classroom.

·       Participate in the provision of evening and weekend reference
assistance on a rotating basis as scheduled.

Research, Scholarship, Creative Activity

·       Create tools designed to give general and course-specific library
resource guidance to students and faculty, to include LibGuides and other
online tools.

·       Engage in an active life of scholarship appropriate to the
instructional and service role of the academic librarian.

·       Provide collection development services in one or more subject
disciplines.

·       Participate as a member of the University Faculty, including
serving on University and Library committees as assigned.

·       Participates actively in regional, state, and/or national
professional organizations.

·       Engages in professional development activities to increase
knowledge and skills in areas of primary responsibility by attending
educational workshops, reviewing professional publications and establishing
a personal network.

QUALIFICATIONS

·       Ability to think critically and act independently to solve problems.

·       Strong commitment to service excellence with the ability to work in
a fast-paced environment, shift priorities, multi-task when competing needs
surface, and meet deadlines.

·       Ability to process information to make innovative applications of
ideas and demonstrates a strong aptitude to learn new technologies.

·       Proven ability to interact effectively, respond quickly and
sensitively to patrons, discern how to best meet their needs, and contact
the appropriate individuals for assistance.

·       Familiar with traditional print resources.

·       Proficient in the general research skills required in academically
rigorous and technologically sophisticated libraries

·       Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in
the English language; ability in the Spanish language is desirable.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree in library or information science
from an ALA-accredited institution. An additional advanced degree within a
discipline of the University’s academic program is preferred.  5+ years’
experience working in an academic library along with teaching information
literacy.
