With apologies for the first garbled message.

It is with great sadness that I share the news that Dr. William Miller, former dean of libraries at Florida Atlantic University and long-time editor of The Reference Librarian, passed away yesterday. Bill was the 2014 winner of ALA's Isadore Gilbert Mudge Award, the highest honor bestowed by ALA's Reference and User Services Association, for his distinguished contributions to reference services and to the library profession.

Bill was truly a gentleman and a scholar, as well as a witty conversationalist and lover of literature. I had the privilege of getting to know him well as he was married to FGCU's Dean of Library Services, Dr. Kathleen Miller. He will be truly missed by all of us who had the honor to know him.
