Fall 2020 Course Drop/Withdrawal Reminders

Planning to late drop a course or withdraw? Read the checklist below carefully to ensure you complete all steps necessary to drop a course with the dean’s permission.

Students who have a late drop available can submit their late drop request via email<mailto:as-advising at fsu.edu?subject=> to the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office (AS-Advising at fsu.edu<mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=>) by the 12th week deadline.

Do not send emails to as-advising at messages.fsu.edu<mailto:as-advising at fsu.edu?subject=>; emails sent to this address are not received by our office.

Students may use up to two late drops before earning 60 hours.

Students who have 60 or more earned hours are permitted to use one late drop.

The 12th Week deadline for Fall 2020 is 11:59 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13.

Process for using a One-Time Upper Division Late Drop during weeks 8-12 of the semester

  1.  Log in to my.fsu.edu<http://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=eeb831b422fbbd04d453c3da56cb9513e1a254b1a9095d580f78ea007cf69186f22f9e0af856b66f241203b64236e8751cd03003e318f5e5>.
  2.  In the middle of the screen you will see your courses. To the bottom left of your courses, there is a note pad icon.
  3.  Click on the note pad icon.
  4.  Select the current semester (Fall 2020).
  5.  Click on the “Click here to drop a class for a closed enrollment term" link. Do not skip this step.
  6.  Read the instructions and click "Continue."
  7.  Select the term of the course you wish to drop.
  8.  Select the course(s) you wish to drop.
  9.  Generate the drop form. Be sure your pop-up blocker is turned off.
  10. Save the generated drop form as a PDF.
  11. Complete the “Undergraduate Request for One-Time Late Drop<http://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=eeb831b422fbbd0458e56ddb35fec494b8d20e98b875f5bb352f19f9d9eabbbe35c28df2e162e757d868cdc5181e40bce15520427dcd94d6>” form (found under Quick links at https://artsandsciences.fsu.edu/students/undergraduate<http://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=eeb831b422fbbd044bcb459eb17e8ef07d6d241e7d28f43ef8acbec172954df719deaf51fe276e4ff998018d2f607b8d19d33e6b87426d11>). You will need to save this PDF form to your computer, fill it out, save it again, and then attach it to your email.
  12. Email both the generated drop form and completed Undergraduate Request for One-Time Late Drop<http://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=eeb831b422fbbd0458e56ddb35fec494b8d20e98b875f5bb352f19f9d9eabbbe35c28df2e162e757d868cdc5181e40bce15520427dcd94d6> form from your FSU email account to AS-Advising at fsu.edu<mailto:as-advising at fsu.edu?subject=>by the Fall 2020 12th week deadline (11:59 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13).


Both the generated drop form and completed Undergraduate Request for One-Time Late Drop form must be submitted by the 12th week deadline for the course you wish to drop.

Students studying in the U.S. on a visa must obtain approval from the Center for Global Engagement<http://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=eeb831b422fbbd04e8ac2462b474130ed585af1673c1ccdf3dc2d2302c71a4a22588e8086348b2f9106f38cdabb23994147d99b48c7570f1> on the generated drop form before submitting the form to AS-Advising at fsu.edu<mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=>.

Students flagged as receiving veterans’ benefits or participating in an FSU International Program (Study Abroad) during a past or future term do not need to obtain permissions from those offices prior to submitting the generated drop form to our office.

If you are having trouble generating your drop form, have a question about the process, or need to verify you have a one-time late drop available to use, email AS-Advising at fsu.edu<mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=>.

Approved late drops are usually processed within five business days of submission. Please check my.fsu.edu<http://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=eeb831b422fbbd04d453c3da56cb9513e1a254b1a9095d580f78ea007cf69186f22f9e0af856b66f241203b64236e8751cd03003e318f5e5> to verify your late drop has been processed and a grade of “W” has been assigned. Contact the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office - Student Affairs<mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=> via email (AS-Advising at fsu.edu<mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=>) if your late drop form has not been processed after five business days.

The College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office – Student Affairs will contact you via your FSU email account in the event we cannot approve a late drop for you (e.g., because you do not have a late drop available, you did not complete the forms correctly, etc.). Please continue to check your FSU email account daily to ensure there are no problems with your late drop request.

Fall 2020 Documented Extenuating Circumstances Course Drop Requests

If you wish to drop courses from the Fall 2020 semester because you have documented extenuating circumstances outside of your control, email AS-Advising at fsu.edu<mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=> to let our office know which course(s) you wish to drop for Fall 2020 and for what reasons. We will then send you the course drop petition. The completed written petition and required supporting documentation will be reviewed by the College of Arts and Sciences Course Drop/Withdrawal Committee to determine if the course drop petition will be approved.

Fall 2020 Medical/Mental Health Course Drop Requests

If you wish to drop courses from the Fall 2020 semester because you have been experiencing medical/mental health issues and have been getting treatment during the Fall 2020 semester, email AS-Advising at fsu.edu <mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=> to let our office know which course(s) you wish to medically drop for Fall 2020 and state if you have been getting treatment. We will then send you the medical/mental health course drop packet. The completed medical/mental health course drop packet and required supporting medical/mental health documentation are reviewed by the University’s Medical/Mental Health Course Drop/ Withdrawal Committee and a recommendation is provided to the College of Arts and Sciences Course Drop/Withdrawal Committee for a final decision.

Fall 2020 Withdrawal Requests

If you want to drop all courses (withdrawal) for the Fall 2020 semester, email AS-Advising at fsu.edu <mailto:AS-Advising at fsu.edu?subject=> to request permission to initiate a Fall 2020 withdrawal. You will need to state why you are requesting the withdrawal. There must be documented extenuating circumstances beyond your control. We will then send you the withdrawal petition for students requesting an administrative withdrawal. The completed written petition and required supporting documentation will be reviewed by the College of Arts and Sciences Course Drop/Withdrawal Committee, unless the withdrawal is medical/mental health in nature. In such cases, the withdrawal request and required supporting medical/mental health documentation are reviewed by the FSU Medical/Mental Health Course Drop/ Withdrawal Committee and a recommendation is provided to the College of Arts and Sciences Course Drop/Withdrawal Committee for a final decision.
