Happy Election Day Reps!
As I promised last night, this email is reiterating what I said in the GroupMe. After conversations with our allies in the Senate, it has become clear that there is not enough support in the Senate to consider a veto override on the constitutional amendment. While this is disappointing, I have continued to work on potential options for our next steps and would like to get the thoughts of the Assembly on them at our meeting Monday. I will lay out more details at the meeting, but please feel free to reach out offline and I would be happy to get some early feedback. My hope is that we can agree to a path forward and continue our fight to be heard.
Because tonight's Senate meeting will likely not include a vote on an override and will, instead, be dominated by the announcement of election results, I don't think it would be wise for us to attend the meeting for public comments. I really appreciate your willingness to speak up for COGS and I know we will have plenty more opportunities to tell FSU why graduate students matter and why our representation matters.
Finally, President Boisvert has told me that he will be at our Monday meeting to speak on his veto and take questions from members. With passions as strong and frustrations as deep as they are, please keep questions to issues of policy and avoid personalities on the floor so we don't give any ammo to those who would try to discredit us.
Thank you all so much for the great work you do, can't wait to see everyone on Wednesday,
Jack Rowan
Speaker of the Congress of Graduate Students
Representative, College of Law Seat 1
Florida State University, 2026
