Are you interested in understanding deeper levels of qualitative analysis? Join the Grounded Theory Analysis class! Through this course, you will:

  *   Distinguish Grounded Theory from other qualitative methodologies
  *   Design and conduct a Grounded Theory study
  *   Understand and apply key principles of Grounded Theory data collection
  *   Understand and apply key principles of Grounded Theory data analysis
  *   Produce a model that integrates the findings and tells the “story” of all participants
  *   Decide if Grounded Theory is the appropriate methodology for future research

This course examines the nature of scientific engagement through a variety of lenses and frameworks. We will explore the dynamics and practices characterizing disciplinary engagement in science, drawing on studies of professional scientists and of learners engaged in inquiry.

Some of the questions that we will explore in this course include: What does doing science look like for scientists and for learners? What epistemic practices are characteristic of scientific engagement, and how have they been conceptualized and studied in science education? What do the beginnings of science look like in children’s
thinking? How do various affective, social, linguistic, and identity dynamics play out in the doing of science? What do these dynamics entail for the design of learning environments and for assessment?

Tasha Weinstein (Instructional Systems & Learning Technologies master's student) received the 2021 Janyth Righter Innovation Award. Weinstein is the public media education and engagement manager at WFSU. The award, which was established in 2017, recognizes individuals who advance public media in Florida through innovation and creative thinking. Weinstein received the award in part due to her work creating and delivering educational content to families and educators during the quarantine.
