Dates & Deadlines

Thursday, August 1: Last day for community college and FSU students to submit Fall 2019 transient applications.

Friday, August 2

  *   Last day for thesis, dissertation, and treatise students to receive an email from Manuscript Clearance confirming final clearance.
  *   Last Day of Classes.
  *   Last day to reduce course load, if permitted, by the Academic Dean.
  *   Last day to apply for AA Degree at the Office of Undergraduate Studies, UCA 3400.
  *   Last day to turn in ServScript hours online.
  *   Last day to officially withdraw from the University.

EDH 5305 College Teaching: Instruction in
Higher Education

This course is designed to discuss and learn about teaching methods and strategies, instructional design, and assessments appropriate to a postsecondary setting. Understanding the context and nature of college teaching will be combined with practical aspects of instruction. The purpose of this course is to help you develop the skills you need to effectively facilitate learning at the college level.

You will have opportunities to practice developing and giving active learning lessons, observing and reflecting on college classes, and designing a learner centered syllabus.

This course counts as one of the required courses for the Preparing Future Faculty certificate. All students interested in learning more about effective college teaching are welcome!

Mostafa Papi, assistant professor of Foreign and Second Language Education, published an article in the journal Reading & Writing. The article is titled "Feedback-Seeking Behavior in Secondary Language Writing: Motivational Mechanisms" and looks at a new study using data collected from 128 foreign language writers. Current Florida State Foreign and Second Language Education doctoral students Anna Bondarenko, Chen Jiang, and Shiyao Zhou as well as alumna Brenda Wawire (Ph.D. '17) contributed to the creation of the article.
