Hurricane Ida Mutual Aid
As many of you are aware, on August 30th, Hurricane Ida made landfall in New Orleans, exactly 16 years to the day that Hurricane Katrina devastated our region. While much of the initial disaster response is complete, New Orleans and the surrounding River Parishes have a long process of recovery and rebuilding ahead. Prospect.5 will contribute to various efforts in this next phase, and the first is amplification of the work of those on the ground. Please take note and consider supporting or learning more about the tremendous mutual aid efforts in our state, listed below:

Southern Solidarity is a grassroots, community-based group of volunteers in solidarity with the unhoused in their quest toward liberation. Year round they organize the delivery of food, medical resources and basic needs directly to the unhoused in the downtown area of New Orleans. They are influenced by anti-imperialist principles and mobilized by a black queer woman. Throughout Hurricane Ida recovery, Southern Solidarity has been active on the ground distributing daily to both unhoused folks in New Orleans and displaced folks in the river parishes, prioritizing the needs of indigenous people.
