Dear All,

Please find the information and schedule for the event "Lay of the Land" below.

Please encourage your students to attend. Thank you!

----------------------

Hello All,

I cordially invite you to attend the Lay of the Land, a Department of Art Faculty Symposium + Exhibition Opening, taking place next Friday, February 20th at the FSU Facility for Arts Research.

The exhibition is composed of works by faculty. The symposium and exhibition examine our complex relationships with the landscapes we inhabit. Purposefully open-ended, the project invites a wide range of approaches. Some works address the impacts of climate change and the cascading, interrelated anthropogenic forces shaping our world, while others investigate the mutability of land itself. From landscapes that bear historical and physical scars of past conflicts, to critiques of the limitations and violence embedded in conventional cartographic practices, to more personal and poetic reflections on place - the works collectively underscore an urgent need to rethink modern societal structures, reimagining humans not as separate from nature, but as deeply embedded within it.

Exhibiting Artists:
  Jonathan Christensen Caballero
  Kevin Curry
  Brian Dick
  Lilian Garcia-Roig
  Katie Kehoe
  Keith Roberson
  Jean Shon
  Anne Stagg

The Symposium will take place from 2:00 - 5:30 pm, with the format being pairs of artists presenting their work followed by a guided Q+A. Thematic links between artist works and practices will be explored, and audience members will be invited to ask questions as well. Here's the schedule:

2:00 - 3:00 : Brian Dick + Keith Roberson
3:00 - 4:00 : Jonathan Christensen Caballero + Kevin Curry
        (break)
4:15 - 5:15 : Jean Shon + Anne Stagg

The reception will begin directly after the symposium, and the opening will last until 8:00 pm.

It's a rare opportunity to see faculty within the department discussing their work, and I encourage you all to join!

All Best,
Jeff
