Dear Instructors within the Department of Art,
I am writing to you because you are the instructor of record for at least one of our courses this semester. Please read this email in its entirety; it includes important information about a requirement that will require a response from you.
A recent Florida Board of Governors Regulation update that occurred late in Fall 2024 established a new requirement that each semester, for each course taught, the instructor of record must
a). attest that he/she will review all of the required course materials prior to making them available to students, and
b). attest that the course materials are appropriate for the course.
While this may sound a bit unsettling, these are things FSU instructors already do. We just need to affirm that it is so.
Due to the timing of the change in the regulation, we needed time to develop, implement, and communicate the method we would use to address this requirement. That is why we are collecting this information for Spring 2025 in the middle of the semester. In future semesters we will do this at the start of each semester.
Starting on March 3rd (today), when you log in to the Canvas LMS, you will be prompted to complete a brief survey for each class that you are teaching. The survey is set up so that you may ignore it once. However, the second time it is presented, you will not be able to access your Canvas materials until you have completed it. The reason that it is set up this way is that it is of high importance to the University that we comply with this requirement. We need your help to make this happen.
If you would like more information about this requirement as well as resources to help you better understand it, please visit Course Materials Attestation | Office of Faculty Development and Advancement<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ffda.fsu.edu%2Fcourse-materials-attestation&data=05%7C02%7CArt-instructors%40lists.fsu.edu%7C2bc611120d5e4bb7565d08dd5a7512f1%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638766181051816123%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=mm0fbDm4ObK9yTNTXYWv3cQmmrymwA8xUvA7K%2FwKHbE%3D&reserved=0>. This page includes more information about the regulation as well as an FAQ document that may answer any questions you might have.
After reviewing those resources, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.
Thank you for all that you do to provide high-quality instruction to our students!
Sincerely,
Jeff
