FSU Tallahassee and Panama City campuses closed
Jan. 9 due to severe weather threat

Florida State University’s Tallahassee and Panama City campuses will close and cancel classes Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024, due to a significant high-impact and severe weather event that will affect the region tonight and Tuesday.

The closure begins at 11 p.m. ET Monday, Jan. 8, and will run until 11 p.m. ET, Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Strong winds, thunderstorms and tornados are possible tonight and Tuesday. Please stay alert and continue to monitor weather conditions. Be prepared for inclement weather and exercise caution, seek shelter and stay indoors any time storm conditions impact campus and surrounding areas.

Essential business operations will continue during the closure. Deans and Vice Presidents will provide guidance for their respective colleges and divisions. Employees designated by their department as essential personnel should consult with their supervisors.

Florida State University Schools (FSUS) and The Collegiate School at FSU Panama City will also be closed Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Main campus housing will remain open and dining operations will be adjusted accordingly throughout the closure. The university expects to resume classes and normal business operations on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

A message to departments from Human Resources will follow with timekeeping guidance. Faculty and instructors will receive guidance on first-day attendance and other procedures in a separate email. Students should monitor their email and Canvas class sites for more information from their instructors.

Drop/add will remain open and will not be extended. The deadline will remain 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024.

University officials will continue to closely monitor the developments of this severe weather event and will issue FSU Alerts as warranted.
