Hi All,

While I hope all is going well, history and my inbox indicate we are in the time of the semester when you are contending with many more stressed-out students. I say this a lot, but it is worth repeating - you are not trained to do anything beyond teaching your classes.

You can and should express care and concern for your students as human beings, but beyond that, the expectation is that you follow protocols laid out by the university and department. Timely reporting through report.fsu.edu<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Freport.fsu.edu%2F&data=05%7C02%7CArt-instructors%40lists.fsu.edu%7Ccae50a99d44b46b7776908dc5ee7af01%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638489596362907330%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=EQahU9LQ4JiKHtMMVyE0DBcXcY2F09qL5SHCjOP7W2c%3D&reserved=0> is very important, as is consultation with your Area Heads regarding any student questions/concerns you might have. Area Heads are given a course release, in part, to support you in this capacity.

The attached should also help - an up-to-date guide regarding resources and steps you should take should you encounter any student issues. A few things have changed, so even if you've been here a while it is worth spending a few minutes checking it out. The last page is likely the most helpful.

To get wonky for a sec (and because Area Heads and Directors are attached) - one very positive development is that Case Management, the Victim Advocate Program, and Withdrawl Services are now all housed within the Department of Student Support & Transitions. I just got off the phone with them, and they seem like a great resource should you have concerns or questions you don't know how to put into report.fsu.edu<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Freport.fsu.edu%2F&data=05%7C02%7CArt-instructors%40lists.fsu.edu%7Ccae50a99d44b46b7776908dc5ee7af01%7Ca36450ebdb0642a78d1b026719f701e3%7C0%7C0%7C638489596362907330%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=EQahU9LQ4JiKHtMMVyE0DBcXcY2F09qL5SHCjOP7W2c%3D&reserved=0>. Here is the Department of Student Support & Transitions' contact information:

Lastly, I've recently been asked a few times about Proactive Referral & Engagement - they are another great office with a mandate to work with identified students to improve academic performance. While I love this is available, they are focused on early (pre-midterm) intervention. Probably not much help now, but please keep them in mind for future semesters.

Thanks All, please reach out should you have any questions or concerns, and know that I appreciate all you are doing!

Jeff
