This message to all students, faculty and staff has been approved by
Renisha Gibbs, Associate Vice President for Human Resources and Finance & Administration Chief of Staff.
Following Gov. DeSantis’ decision<https://click.message.fsu.edu/?qs=d8c6c3e2a9c534795b836376f4c8e5867866217c64fb3b199ccf9a841d000760e0f6de017e66744f0e0f03a89ceeeb282c95ac0a5bdd7c28> Tuesday afternoon to close state offices on Monday, July 3, Florida State University will also close for business and classes will not meet that day. This closure is in addition to the Independence Day holiday observed on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. Salaried employees (USPS, A&P, Executive Service, and Faculty) will receive both days as paid holidays with no annual leave usage required.

Faculty may prepare or post asynchronous online instructional materials and should communicate their plan to students, which allows the university to observe the closure consistent with the state’s decision. Students should monitor communications from their instructors for any changes to the instructional plan.

As with any holiday within an academic term, the university will be closed, but essential services, as determined by department heads, will continue. Salaried employees required to work on these days will be provided straight-time compensatory leave per university policy.

Human Resources will provide more detailed guidance for employees later this week.
