Department of Art Faculty, Instructors, and Staff,

Tropical Storm Ian will be turning into a hurricane in the coming days and the potential of a direct hit to Tallahassee is a legitimate concern. Please take the precautions necessary to keep you and yours safe. Particularly if you are new to the area or haven’t lived through a hurricane before, we encourage you to reach out to those who’ve been here for a while or the Art Office with questions or for support.

While we remain hopeful that the storm's effects on Tallahassee will be minimal, all reputable projections show that Florida will receive a direct hit from what will be a major hurricane. Our students and their families will be affected. A little bit of concern expressed in advance of the storm will go a long way.

Also, faculty and instructors - while we would never suggest you relax standards, please recognize the impacts of homes and livelihoods lost as you consider attendance and late submission policies for your affected students.

We absolutely acknowledge that as a community, we've been through a lot recently. We will get through this as well - all the better if we continue to demonstrate the compassion, consideration, and support for one another that we've shown in the past.

Thanks, and if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out.

Lilian and Jeff
