Dear all.  We are planning to conduct a search for an endowed chair in family gerontology this year.  Our Dean would like to experiment with a new trend to have someone outside the dept. chair the search committee.  We don’t think this is a good idea, and we’ve been asked to document our contention that this is not standard practice in our field.  Thus, we are reaching out to you to find out if you have done a gerontology search lately, and, if so, did you use an internal chair or external?  If you have a copy of the search announcement, that’s be wonderful!  Thank you so much!
