ISL NEWSLETTER
February 2023

** The new Alzheimer's drug
------------------------------------------------------------
The Food and Drug Administration has authorized the use of a new drug to treat early Alzheimer’s disease: Lecanemab. What does the new drug do? How does it work?

Neil Charness, Director of the Institute for Successful Longevity, explains in the latest ISL Blog: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://fsu.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ea9a71fd919a34dfeb471af4a&id=65b734288d&e=a1f92d7f25__;!!PhOWcWs!2sDnUMTIRmIIsJvUXj5YWKsQOTw22G20LiorpgDdu9tP7SAB5IQ-Sq4ofCiopUkWliN7hbun2w1bV6SK6Q$ .

** The Ups and Downs of Aging Brains
------------------------------------------------------------
If you missed
Caterina Gratton's ISL Brown Bag Talk on “The Ups and Downs of Aging Brains: Using Precision Imaging to Map Brain Organization in Older Adults,” you can now watch it on ISL’s web site: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://fsu.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ea9a71fd919a34dfeb471af4a&id=64fcf45b64&e=a1f92d7f25__;!!PhOWcWs!2sDnUMTIRmIIsJvUXj5YWKsQOTw22G20LiorpgDdu9tP7SAB5IQ-Sq4ofCiopUkWliN7hbun2w35ssrnCg$ .

Dr. Gratton’s research focuses on characterizing how human brain networks are organized and how they contribute to complex, goal-directed behaviors such as attention. Her lab team studies the neural substrates underlying these processes in the healthy population as well as how they vary across individuals and break down with damage.

Dr. Gratton, Associate Professor of Psychology, is a Faculty Affiliate of the Institute for Successful Longevity.

** Chris Martin discusses his memory-improving smartphone app
------------------------------------------------------------

A study conducted by Chris Martin, Assistant Professor of Psychology and a Faculty Affiliate of the Institute for Successful Longevity, and researchers at the University of Toronto shows that a smartphone application they developed can enhance memory function in older adults.

Martin was the lead author on the study, which was published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences in December. The study found that regular users of the HippoCamera app recalled everyday experiences with over 50 percent more detail than they would otherwise. Martin talks about the team’s app here: https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://fsu.us11.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ea9a71fd919a34dfeb471af4a&id=26062f7fda&e=a1f92d7f25__;!!PhOWcWs!2sDnUMTIRmIIsJvUXj5YWKsQOTw22G20LiorpgDdu9tP7SAB5IQ-Sq4ofCiopUkWliN7hbun2w3ekt2v4A$ .
