From vangildrjp at appstate.edu Tue Mar 18 10:32:33 2025 From: vangildrjp at appstate.edu (Jennifer Van Gilder) Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2025 10:32:33 -0400 Subject: [Seuce-cci] Grammar Learning Gap? Message-ID: Hi, Everyone, We're having discussions on our undergraduate curriculum committee about how to revise and update our "Structural Analysis of Language" class. We've historically found that many/most of the students taking this class have a learning gap in basic understanding of grammar and syntax, so they lack the basic tools for analyzing speech or language. This continues to adversely affect their abilities to analyze speech and language in graduate school. Are other programs seeing this learning gap with their students? How do you address this learning gap at the undergrad level if applicable at your institution? Are you seeing this as a learning gap with your graduate students? If so, how have you addressed this with your graduate students? Thank you, Jennifer -- Jennifer P.
