From LKrieger at law.fsu.edu Fri Aug 23 16:00:40 2019 From: LKrieger at law.fsu.edu (Lawrence Krieger) Date: Fri, 23 Aug 2019 20:00:40 +0000 Subject: [Law-meditation] Starting this Monday: Meditation and Movement weekly session, 12.30 - 12.55, Roberts 308 Message-ID: All, We've had a short weekly sitting at the law school for several years, to learn the experience of meditation and mindfulness. I've taught programs like this for many decades and, along with simple practices that we do together, occasionally take a few minutes to discuss the different techniques for mental, physical, and emotional health - how they work, why they need to feel effortless (as I understand and teach them), and the scientific research supporting them. Because there are no organization conflicts at lunch on Mondays, I'm going to try that day to start. The meeting time will be 25 minutes, from 12.30 - 12.55. For the first meeting it will primarily be a meditation (or 'mindfulness' some would say) instruction and few minutes of practice. The way I have been trained, this is a simple and natural process that consistently provides restfulness, relaxation, and as a result, more energy and mental clarity to carry into your daily activity. It does not matter if you have not done anything like this before or have been doing similar things for years; the results are quite comparable across groups because the process is natural and does not require effort, an special skill, or practice. So just come by Monday, Room 308 Roberts Hall if interested or curious about this. Note: my partner Theresa is an expert in physical and emotional health, and has been teaching lawyers and law students simple movement that can be done anywhere and most anytime to stay healthy and comfortable. If folks who attend these meetings are interested, I would like to add a bit of this at the beginning of meetings (2-3 minutes maybe, depending on how people feel), as this is a great way to drop a lot of stress we collect in our bodies, and then allows the meditation to be more comfortable and effective. I'll check with folks who come Mondays about this idea as well. Note also, we have a Monday holiday coming soon; whenever Monday won't work for this I will try to substitute a Tuesday meeting at the same time. IF YOU HAVE A CONFLICT generally on Mondays but are interested, please email me with your situation and the days that would work for you. To stay up with any date changes and the like: I provide a very short weekly email reminder about the meeting, along with occasional notice of a special program or change in scheduling. To receive this brief weekly reminder, please subscribe to our internal list serve at the link below. Thanks very much, and feel free to email me (only) with any questions: lkrieger at law.fsu.edu , keep 'meditation' or 'mindfulness' in the subject line. Best wishes for a great year and see you Monday, happy Fall semester! Prof. Krieger -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
