Warm greetings from FSU law, where the weather is cooling off but the community remains welcoming. We were happy to welcome our students back to campus after an eventful spring and summer, and it has remained eventful through the fall. Everyone is settling into a year in which the challenges of studying the law are compounded by the many changes taking place in the legal world around us. ? [https://d31hzlhk6di2h5.cloudfront.net/20251103/ff/ec/72/80/706a2ccfc1fbc64dc7d6f84c.png] Erin Ryan, Assoc. Dean for Envtl. Programs To help us understand some of those changes from an environmental perspective, we were thrilled to be joined this month by our Fall Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Kirsten Engel, currently on leave from the University of Arizona College of Law to serve as the Interim Chief of the Environmental Protection Unit in the Arizona Office of the Attorney General. Professor Engel is also a former Arizona state legislator, having served in both the Arizona House and Senate, so together, with her Eighth Circuit judicial clerkship, she brings a nearly 360-degree perspective on the legal system - especially from the perspective of state and local government. Her lecture, "Environmental Law 2.0: A Former State Lawmaker?s Perspective on the Remaking of American Law," offered a profoundly interesting and timely take on this moment of great legal change. You can access her lecture and all others in our series, in the Events roundup at the bottom of this newsletter, and as always, in our program Events archive, here. With crisp Autumn wishes to all, - ER ? Faculty Focus: Erin Ryan This fall, Elizabeth C. & Clyde W. Atkinson Professor Erin Ryan was on research leave and made an international impact. Professor Ryan recently wrapped up teaching Environmental Policy and Marine Resources Law at Ocean University of China in Qingdao, where she previously served as a Fulbright Scholar in 2011?12.
