Join us at 3:30 next Wednesday, March 1, for the Spring 2023 Distinguished Environmental Lecture, where Georgetown Professor William Buzbee will present Fears, Faith, and Facts in Environmental Law. Bill Buzbee is the Edward and Carole Walter Professor Chair and Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center, where he specializes in environmental law, legislation and regulation, administrative law, and federalism, and serves as the Faculty Director of Georgetown Law’s Environmental Law & Policy Program.

Environmental law has long been shaped by the environmental challenges of the moment and the sources of fear and faith associated with our efforts to confront them. The lecture identifies the kinds of fear and faith that catalyze environmental regulatory action, as well as the disparate fears and faith that foment legal constraints to check regulatory abuses. Considering the volatility of environmental law’s most pressing challenges—including climate change, political vacillations, and changing dynamics on the Supreme Court—Professor Buzbee focuses on how greater attention to the documentation of statutorily significant facts and science can help surmount the growing conflicts between these difference sources of fear and faith.
