David Telesco of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be joining us to discuss Florida Black Bear Management. David has over 20 years of experience in bear research and management, and serves as the Co-Chair of the Bear Management Committee of the International Association for Bear Research and Management, and the Bear-Resistant Product Testing Committee of the Large Carnivore Working Group for the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies.

Michael Vandenbergh, David Daniels Allen Distinguished Chair in Law of Vanderbilt Law School will be presenting the Spring 2022 Distinguished Environmental Lecture<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/t.e2ma.net/click/phf4zc/dkt3efj/dwe81g__;!!PhOWcWs!mLp2QSaTsOcVJxjLWK2Am_wL-zWFQyx_DFmSkS8HyqIILuUIyRr2esclfeJzfJYHGQ$> entitled "Environmental Law in a Polarized Era". The lecture will explore private environmental governance (PEG), which occurs when private sector performs a traditionally governmental function such as climate change mitigation. It will take a critical look at the social license pressues that firms are facing on climate change.
Professor Vandenberg's research focuses on working with interdisciplinary teams to explore environmentjal governance, environmental behavior and climate change. His research had developed the concept of private environmental governance and explored how private governance initiatives can address polarization and other barriers to climate change mitigation.

Carbon pricing have been aggressively promoted in the international community – from Kyoto Protocol up to the Paris Agreement. Currently, we have emissions trading system, emissions reduction funds, carbon tax, or hybrid depending on need. Economically, it makes sense to push for carbon pricing; however, the laws of politics still play a big role in pushing for this creative reform. In the U.S., the political path for taxing GHG emissions forward is challenging at best. The Political Case For (and Against) Carbon Taxation will be a panel discussion on whether or not to continue advocacy for an economy-wide carbon tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Two panelists will argue for continuing to press for a carbon tax, while two panelists will express skepticism about the merits and the political feasibility of a carbon tax. All panelists will address the economics, politics, and environmental justice implications of carbon taxation.
