Currently, we have emissions trading system, emissions reduction funds, carbon tax, or hybrid depending on need. Economically, it makes sense to push for carbon pricing; however, the laws of politics still play a big role in pushing for this creative reform. In the U.S., the political path for taxing GHG emissions forward is challenging at best. The Political Case For (and Against) Carbon Taxation will be a panel discussion on whether or not to continue advocacy for an economy-wide carbon tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Two panelists will argue for continuing to press for a carbon tax, while two panelists will express skepticism about the merits and the political feasibility of a carbon tax. All panelists will address the economics, politics, and environmental justice implications of carbon taxation.
