Part of its mission is to support law students seeking to practice in these areas. Towards that end, FNREL awards student scholarships to roughly 30-40 students each year, including some as part of its diversity, equity, and inclusion program. FNREL receives between 100 and 150 applications each year, so the success rate is pretty reasonable. Please see the email appended below. As a member of the Scholarships Award Committee, I can say that while grades are a highly relevant factor in a scholarship application, they are definitely not dispositive. Different committee members weight different factors differently, and all pay close attention to the extent to which applicants are dedicated towards pursuing practice in natural resources or energy law. Demonstrated interest in your pre-law-school life or your law school activities count as evidence of interest. Traditional practices in oil, gas, mining and water are always encouraged, but the Foundation has also pivoted very strongly to encourage practices in conservation, environmental assessment, and renewable energy. By the way, a FNREL student membership is free and simple to obtain (see link below), and opens up other resources and opportunities, such as travel support and free registration for some Continuing Legal Education Programs offered by FNREL, so it?s a pretty good, low-cost-and-effort If you have any questions, please reach out to me.
