Thanks to the hard work of all team members, our program was officially recognized by the State University System Board of Governors as an SUS Center for Environmental, Energy, and Land Use Law, facilitating future partnerships and funding opportunities. We proudly graduated 12 Environmental J.D. Certificate and LL.M. students, placed 24 students in environmental externships, credited 11 pro bono environmental service projects, and hosted 12 guest lecturers and panel participants through our environmental enrichment series. We also maintained our standing as one of the top ranked environmental law programs in the United States, placing 7th among programs at public universities in U.S. News and World Report?s assessment, and tying for 18th among all programs nationwide. As we eagerly prepare for our return to in-person learning this Fall, we send heartfelt wishes to all for a restful and healthy summer! - Erin Ryan, Associate Dean for Environmental Programs Alumni Highlight [https://d31hzlhk6di2h5.cloudfront.net/20210714/92/0d/32/3d/2e409bb0e26027a74360a5cd_856x456.png] Captain Alan S. Students who place a paper will have the opportunity to present their work in Austin, Texas in April 2022. The State Bar of Texas' Environmental Law Section is sponsoring the symposium, and they are working on funding to help cover participants' expenses. Below is the symposium description. Deadline is on August 18, 2021. Good day! ***** Call for Papers The Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas is pleased to announce its first Symposium on Legal System Changes to Address Climate Change and the Energy Transition, to be held in April, 2022. In connection with the Symposium, the Texas Environmental Law Journal (TELJ) will be publishing a special edition dedicated to innovative thought leadership on meeting the challenges of climate change and the energy transition. TELJ seeks student-written articles discussing the ways statutory and regulatory systems need to change to facilitate and promote energy transition, and optimal mitigation and adaptation strategies in response to climate change. Potential topics include: regulatory changes to facilitate decarbonization, carbon markets, carbon capture, utilization and sequestration (CCUS), state and local land use regulation, transportation planning and funding, coastal zone management, agricultural and range land management, endangered species and wildlife protection laws, property and casualty insurance, and administrative law. The symposium seeks to harness innovative approaches and thought leadership on the response to climate change. Student papers that are prescriptive / aspirational are welcomed. Submissions must be of publishable quality but may be relatively brief ( e.g. , 10 pages). Multidisciplinary and interdepartmental collaborations are strongly encouraged. Additional submission specifications: * Length: 10-15 double-spaced pages (2,500-3,750 words), although longer submissions will be considered. * Citations: * Citations must be included throughout the written submissions. * Citations should be placed in footnotes rather than endnotes or in-text citations. * Submissions should conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (21st ed.) to the extent possible. To encourage multidisciplinary and interdepartmental collaborations for purposes of this special edition, TELJ is relaxing its usual scrutiny of Bluebook conformity. * Structure: Because the purpose of the symposium and special TELJ edition is to discuss innovative approaches to addressing climate change, the papers can have more structural, stylistic, and substantive flexibility than typical law review articles. * Abstract/synopsis: Due to the article length preferences, please do not include an article abstract in the written submission. An overview of the article can be included in a cover letter with your submission. * File format: Microsoft Word * Originality/Copyright: The written submission must be author's original work, and the author must have the right to publish the work. Submission are due to teljeds at gmail.com by August 18, 2021. Accepted papers will be published in a special edition of the Texas Environmental Law Journal ahead of the Symposium. Authors will be invited to present their papers at the Symposium in Austin, Texas in April 2022. Final event details will be announced this summer. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
