Dear students interested in Environmental, Energy, Land Use, and Natural Resources Law,

On Wednesday, January 8, from 9:30-11:00 AM in Room 103, there will be a panel addressing Reynolds v. Florida-a case seeking remedies for harms from climate change in Florida. Some of the children who are plaintiffs in the case will be at the event. I hope that you will be able to attend. Please note that only the plaintiffs will attend the panel because the defendants (the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Governor's Office) declined the invitation to participate due to a policy of avoiding comment on pending litigation.

Friday, February 21, Room 208, 9:30 AM-3:15 PM, Local Autonomy and Energy Law Symposium. This symposium will address the growing trend of state governments preempting local government control in the area of energy law and other policy areas. Participants: Richard Briffault, Joseph P. Chamberlain Professor of Legislation, Columbia Law School (keynote speaker); Alexandra Klass, Distinguished McKnight University Professor, University of Minnesota Law School; John Nolon, Professor of Law, Pace University Elisabeth Haub School of Law; Ashira Ostrow, Peter S. Kalikow Distinguished Professor of Real Estate and Land Use Law, Hofstra Law; Erin Scharff, Associate Professor of Law, Arizona State University Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law; Rick Su, Professor of Law, University of North Carolina School of Law; Sarah Swan, Assistant Professor, FSU College of Law; Shelley Welton, Assistant Professor of Law, University of South Carolina School of Law (visiting at Stanford Law); and Michael Wolf, Richard E. Friday, February 28: Deadline for submitting an application for a Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation tuition scholarship. Bate,  Catherine J. Boggs, and Frances Hartogh Diversity Outreach scholarships awarded by the Foundation. Awards range in size from $1,000 to $10,000.  Deadline for JD students is February 28, 2020 and for LLM/SJD students the deadline is March 13, 2020.

Wednesday, March 11, Room 310, 3:30-4:30 PM, Spring 2020 Distinguished Lecture: Cary Coglianese, Edward B. Shils Professor and Director, Program on Regulation, University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Wednesday, April 1, Room 208, 12:30-1:30 PM, lecture by Shalanda Baker, Professor of Law, Public Policy and Urban Affairs, Northeastern University School of Law. Lecture is tentatively titled "Policy Pathways to a Just Energy Transition."
