Bullard is the Distinguished Professor of Urban Planning and Environmental Policy at Texas Southern University, co-founder of the HBCU Climate Change Consortium and an award-winning author of 18 books on race, equity and environmental justice. He was one of the organizers of the first National People of Color Environmental Leadership Summit in 1991. The first 100 FSU students to arrive for the event will receive a free copy of The Wrong Complexion for Protection, the acclaimed 2012 book by Bullard and Beverly Wright, founding director of the Deep South Center for Environmental Justice. The Competition is open to law students and planning students writing on a question of significance in planning, planning law, land use law, local government law or environmental law. Students are encouraged to submit relevant research papers prepared throughout the academic year, so this is an excellent outlet for completed law review and journal notes. The winning entry will be awarded a prize of $2,000 and submitted for publication in The Urban Lawyer, the law journal of the American Bar Association's Section of State & Local Government Law. The Second Place paper will receive a prize of $400, and one Honorable Mention prize of $100 will also be awarded. The submission deadline is June 7, 2019.
