Happy 2014, everyone!

Attached is a flyer and here are links for information about the

2014 ABA Energy Law Student Writing Competition

http://www.ambar.org/EnvironLawStudents

or for specifics

http://www.americanbar.org/groups/environment_energy_resources/membership/law_student_resources/writing_competitions.html

This year's topic is again open-ended-any issue related to energy law, and students may use any previously unpublished work, including papers they have submitted for your classes.

As with last year, there will be cash awards. The deadline is Friday, May 16-late in the semester (or after the semester is over for some of us).

In case you missed the announcement, last year's winners were as follows:

1st place ($700)-Andrew Emerson of George Washington University Law School, Revising Liability Limits for Small Modular Reactors: Amending the Price-Anderson Act to Minimize the
Impact of Liability Limits on Reactor Design Choices

2nd place ($500)- Thomas J. Alves of Hofstra Law School, There's Still a Chance: Why the Clean Air Act Does Not Preempt State Common Law Despite the Fourth Circuit's Ruling in North Carolina v. TVA

3rd place ($250)-Yunjoo Goze-Wayne State University Law School, Unexpected Hurdle for

Decoupling in Michigan

You may go to the following link to read last year's full articles: http://apps.americanbar.org/dch/comadd.cfm?com=NR252300&pg=2

Please contact me if you have any questions or if you wish to volunteer to help judge the contest. We have non-professor coordinators and blind evaluations of the papers, so your participation as a judge will not disqualify your students. Thanks!

Warmly,

K.K. DuVivier
