Dear ISL Affiliates, Graduate Students, and Postdoctoral Scholars,
As we begin the 2026–2027 academic year, the FSU Institute for Successful Longevity (ISL) is inviting faculty affiliates, graduate students, and postdoctoral scholars to join one or more of our three Working Groups:
*
Advanced Technology Working Group (Chair: Dr. Zhe He) — advancing interdisciplinary research and training at the intersection of aging and emerging technologies, including AI, digital health, HCI, and assistive technologies. Major priorities this year include planning for an NIA Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratory (AITC) P30, developing an Aging + Technology T32 concept, and launching an AI + Aging Innovation Challenge.
*
Clinical Research Working Group (Chair: Dr. Julia Sheffler) — strengthening clinical and translational aging research through interdisciplinary collaboration, research workforce development, participant recruitment, community engagement, and connections with FSU research resources. This coming year will feature initiatives on the Clinical Research Assistant Foundations course, ISL Volunteer Registry Revitalization, Community Partnerships, among others.
*
Basic Science Working Group (Chair: Dr. Ravinder Nagpal) — fostering multidisciplinary collaborations to understand the biological, psychological, and social mechanisms of aging and promote discoveries that can support healthy aging and longevity. Major priorities this year include promoting collaboration with the other WGs, identifying research-related challenges and helping address them, and engaging graduate students and postdoc trainees in ISL activities.
This year, we are particularly interested in increasing opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to participate in ISL activities, connect with faculty across disciplines, develop collaborations, and contribute to research, training, and innovation initiatives. The Basic Science Working Group, for example, specifically plans to expand opportunities for graduate students and postdocs to strengthen their research training, scientific credentials, and career exposure.
Working Group participation is intended to be flexible. You do not need to participate in every activity. Members can contribute based on their interests and availability—for example, by sharing research ideas or expertise, identifying funding opportunities, joining a collaborative project or grant team, mentoring or working with trainees, or helping develop a specific Working Group initiative.
You are welcome to join more than one Working Group. Please see the attached Working Group updates and 2026–2027 plans for additional information.
If you are interested in participating, please complete our brief sign-up survey by September 30. Please sign up even if you signed up last year. It takes 3 minutes to sign up.

We hope these Working Groups will create more opportunities for ISL faculty and trainees to connect across disciplines and turn shared interests into meaningful research collaborations, grant proposals, training opportunities, and new initiatives in aging and longevity.
Best Regards,
