Message-ID: Dear ISL faculty affiliates and advisors, I wanted to share that our Administrative Assistant Nehja will be leaving the Institute for Successful Longevity later this month as she and her fianc? prepare to move to upstate New York, where he will begin a doctoral program. While we are excited for this new opportunity and chapter in her life, we will certainly miss having Nehja as part of the ISL team. Over the past few two years, Nehja has contributed to many aspects of ISL's work, from helping coordinate meetings and events, to supporting our outreach activities and affiliate engagement efforts, to assisting with communications and online platforms. Many of the programs and events that have taken place at ISL have benefited from her hard work behind the scenes. On a personal note, I have greatly appreciated Nehja's professionalism, reliability, and positive attitude. Please join me in thanking Nehja for her contributions to ISL and wishing her all the best as she begins this next chapter. We are grateful for everything she has done for the Institute and look forward to hearing about her future successes. Thank you, Nehja, and best wishes from all of us at ISL! This webinar should be of interest to many colleagues and students at CCI, ISL, CTSA, and various departments. Date and Time: June 26, 2026, 1:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) Registration Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/nRvlfvQVRROemrD6ckqT4Q Title: AI for Automatic Nutrition Estimation Abstract: Accurate nutrition estimation helps people make informed dietary choices and is essential in the prevention of serious health complications. We present NutriBench, the first publicly available natural language meal description nutrition benchmark. NutriBench consists of 11,857 meal descriptions generated from real-world global dietary intake data. The data is human-verified and annotated with macro-nutrient labels, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, and calories. We conduct an extensive evaluation of NutriBench on the task of carbohydrate estimation, and discover that our best developed LLMs can provide comparable but significantly faster estimates compared to human dietitians. Finally, we perform a real-world risk assessment by simulating the effect of carbohydrate predictions on the blood glucose levels of individuals with diabetes. Our work highlights the opportunities and challenges of using LLMs for nutrition estimation, demonstrating their potential to aid professionals and laypersons and improve health outcomes. Short bio: Yao Qin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, with an affiliation to the Department of Computer Science at UC Santa Barbara. She is also the co-Director of the REAL AI for Science initiative at UCSB and a Senior Research Scientist at Google DeepMind. She obtained her Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC San Diego, working on improving AI robustness and safety. Recently, her research is focusing on developing trustworthy models for diabetes care, including nutrition estimation, exercise, and closed-loop Automated Insulin Delivery systems. She has over 40 publications in top-tier AI conferences and journals and was recognized as a Rising Star in EECS by MIT in 2020. Her work on diabetes has been awarded the American Diabetes Association Early Career Abstract Award, 2025 and is currently undergoing FDA clearance. Accelerated Limited Submissions: USDA NIFA's Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program--Product Prescription Program Dear Deans, Department Heads, Directors, and affiliates, Please share the following e-mail with your faculty. ? * Dear FSU researchers, The U.S. Department of Agriculture?s (USDA?s) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) is soliciting proposals for a limited submissions program, The Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program?Produce Prescription Program. The program supports projects that aim to demonstrate and evaluate the impact of prescribing fresh fruits and vegetables on (1) the improvement of dietary health through increased consumption of fruits and vegetables; (2) the reduction of individual and household food insecurity; and (3) the reduction in healthcare use and associated costs. The agency deadline is July 16, 2026. FSU is permitted to submit one application. Because the agency released this funding opportunity fewer than 8 weeks before the deadline, FSU is now launching an ?Accelerated Limited Submissions? internal competition to select the PI to submit an application on behalf of the university. Rather than submit through the FSU Limited Submissions portal in the standard way, interested PIs should submit a one-page Concept Paper via email to me (cbradley at fsu.edu). In the Concept Paper, please provide a brief description of the project, project team, and budget. Concept Papers are due to me by Mon., June 22, 2026 at 5pm ET. Please let me know if you have questions.
