Announcing the Southeastern Health AI Consortium Funding Program


Dear colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a major new funding opportunity through the Southeastern Health AI Consortium, a partnership between the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and the University of Florida Clinical and Translational Science Institute (UF CTSI). This initiative supports collaborative, AI-driven research designed to accelerate innovation and improve health outcomes across the Southeast.

Program Tracks

Track 1: Novel Health Insights

  *   Funding: Up to $400,000 for one year
  *   Purpose: Supports multi-institutional research addressing real-world clinical or population health challenges
  *   Team Requirement: Dual-PI application with lead investigators from both MUSC and UF

Track 2: Methodologic Innovation

  *   Funding: Up to $100,000 for one year
  *   Purpose: Supports development of new analytic, informatic, or data-science methods enabling future health AI applications
  *   Team Requirement: MUSC–UF collaboration required

Priority Research Areas

  *   Mental and behavioral health
  *   Maternal morbidity and mortality
  *   Stroke
  *   Brain and cognitive health across the lifespan
  *   Advancing gene and cellular therapies

Projects outside these areas will be considered if they strongly advance AI-enabled translational research.

Eligibility

Faculty, clinicians, data scientists, and research teams at MUSC and UF are eligible to apply.Although the program focuses on advanced investigators, early-stage faculty at the Assistant Professor level who lead independent research efforts are also eligible to apply. Each application must include at least one investigator from each institution.

Key Deliverables

  *   Track 1: Submission of a full, collaborative multi-institutional proposal
  *   Track 2: Submission of a peer-reviewed manuscript

Key Dates

  *   January 9, 2026 — One-page concept proposals due (via InfoReady)
  *   February 1, 2026 — Team collaboration meetings / matchmaking support
  *   April 13, 2026 — Invited full applications due
  *   June 1, 2026 — Awards announced
  *   July 1, 2026 — Earliest project start date (confirmable)

Review Criteria

Applications will be evaluated on:

  *   Scientific rigor and significance
  *   Strength of MUSC–UF collaboration
  *   Innovation in AI or AI-enabling methods
  *   Impact on health outcomes in the Southeast
  *   Feasibility and alignment with consortium goals

Budget Guidance

  *   One-year project period
  *   Allowable costs include personnel, data access fees, supplies, and limited equipment (as justified)
