After discussing within our ISL leadership and Joint Advisory Board, I?d like to propose the idea of creating three Working Groups that focus on three strategic areas of emphasis of our institute: Advanced Technology Working Group, Clinical Research Working Group, and Basic Science Working Group. These are three areas that we would like to develop for ISL to advance aging research at FSU and take the lead for the future aging-related center grants. We will appoint a chair for each Working Group to coordinate activities within the group and serve as a liaison between the Working Groups with the ISL leadership team. These are more specific for these working groups: 1. Advanced Technology Working Group Objective: * Explore and leverage emerging technologies such as AI to improve the quality of life for the older adults. * Focus on technologies that can be integrated into daily living, assist with health monitoring, and provide cognitive and social engagement. Activities: * Conduct seminars and workshops on the latest technological advancements in AI, IoT, and robotics that can be applied to aging. * Collaborate with tech companies and startups for pilot projects. * Facilitate interdisciplinary research projects among computer scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals. 2. Clinical Research Working Group Objective: * Enhance clinical practices and interventions that improve health outcomes for the older adults. * Focus on translational research that bridges the gap between laboratory research and practical, clinical applications. Activities: * Develop partnerships with local hospitals and healthcare facilities to test new treatments and interventions. * Organize regular case study reviews and discussion forums to assess the efficacy of current aging-related health strategies. * Initiate large-scale cohort studies to better understand the health trajectories of the aging population. 3. Basic Science Working Group Objective: * Investigate the fundamental biological, psychological, and social mechanisms of aging. * Uncover new knowledge that could lead to groundbreaking treatments and preventive strategies. Activities: * Host small symposiums featuring leading scientists in gerontology, genetics, and cellular biology. * Promote collaborative grants to fund high-risk, high-reward research projects. * Facilitate the sharing of research resources and methodologies across departments. ISL will ensure that all three groups maintain strong communication and overlap where appropriate. This can be facilitated through joint meetings and integrated research platforms. We will help make connection with our community partners and regularly engage with stakeholders including aging populations, caregivers, and policy makers to ensure research relevance and impact. We will also develop outreach programs that translate research findings into community workshops, continuing education for professionals, and public health initiatives. We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on these working group ideas so when we launch them in the fall, we will be well prepared.
