Greetings and good wishes from the AFU Office in DCU.

It has been a busy summer, and COVID restrictions continue to dominate plans for a safe return for all to campus.  The AFUGN has continued to expand, and we are about to welcome our 80th institution.  Expressions of interest are also coming from our colleagues in Asia and Africa, which is terrific news.

The International Day of Older Persons is October 1st, and each year has a specific focus (this year's theme has yet to be announced).  In Ireland, the event falls at the end of Positive Ageing Week, and we are planning a number of events.  The International Day of Older People provides an excellent opportunity to promote age inclusivity and the possibility of AFUGN collaboration.  If you are planning an event, please let me know, and we will promote it via the AFUGN social media platforms.

Preliminary Call for Abstracts

Please find the details below regarding a Call for Abstracts for the global conference planned for November next.  I am delighted that Prof. Roger Baldwin, Professor Emeritus of Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education at Michigan State University and Dr Cathy Fowley, Dublin City University, will jointly act as Academic Directors for this virtual three-day event.

To engage as many AFUGN members as possible, I would be most grateful if you could suggest moderators and discussants from your institution on the conference themes outlined below and, of course, disseminate the Call for Abstracts to your broader networks.

There will be three parts to the Conference:

Day 1: Will focus on Academic Papers and Discourse

Day 2: Will focus on the Future of Ageing and the Silver Economy from a global perspective.

Day 3: Will focus on the National Perspective.

The Keynote Speaker is Nora Super, Director of the Future of Ageing at the Milken Institute.  The OECD, World Bank and Hinks Centre of Entrepreneurship Excellence.

We are still in the planning stage and will have a confirmed schedule by mid-August.

In the meantime, keep well and enjoy what remains of the Summer.
