Subject: NIH updates

Good day faculty,

Please see several NIH updates below.

Earlier this year I emailed about upcoming changes to the NIH BioSketch and Other Support documents, the official release of the changes will occur sometime this month and the implementation is January 2021. I'll forward the official notification and SRA will also distribute. Changes include, but not a complete list or fully described:

  1. BioSketch
     * Section B will include all scientific appointments (foreign and domestic).
     * Section D is removed for research focused biosketches and remains with a slightly different focus for fellowship biosketches.
     * The 5 page limit is still intact.
     * SciENcv will integrate in late 2021
  2. Other Support: "Includes all resources made available to researcher or senior key personnel in support of and/or related to all of their research endeavors, regardless of whether or not they have monetary value and regardless of whether they are based at the institution the researcher identifies for the current grant. Other support does not include training awards, prizes, gifts or start-up support from the US based institution". "This includes resource and/or financial support from all foreign and domestic entities, including but not limited to, financial support for laboratory personnel, and provision of high-value materials that are not freely available (e.g., biologics, chemical, model systems, technology, etc.)".
     * Consultant arrangements are not usually included.
     * Does not include "start up".
     * Includes total direct and indirect amounts.

Reminder: NIH Policy on Use of Hypertext in NIH Grant Applications: NOT-OD-20-174<https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwi4_8jI0ObsAhVpRN8KHaoHAkUQFjAAegQIBxAC&url=https%3A%2F%2Fgrants.nih.gov%2Fgrants%2Fguide%2Fnotice-files%2FNOT-OD-20-174.html&usg=AOvVaw0H8o2cxnq_En_WfK4e3dHF>

NIH released the final Policy for Data Management and Sharing, which can be found here:
https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-21-013.html The effective date of the DMS Policy is January 25, 2023.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Bonnie
