An important message from FSU Office of Human Resources

This message has been approved by Shelley Lopez, Program Director, Communications/Special Projects, for distribution to all Department Representatives.

The IRS has released a new version of the W-4 form effective January 1, 2020. Due to the late release of the 2020 form, the Smart Onboarding process has not been updated to include the form for electronic submission. We are working diligently to update the Smart Onboarding process with the new 2020 form.
Effective January 24, 2020, a completed 2020 W-4 form<https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf> must be uploaded into the Supplemental Documents page for all candidates completing an original onboarding invitation. This requirement includes new hires and rehires with a break in service. You must continue to follow this procedure until the Smart Onboarding electronic process includes the new 2020 form. A communication will be sent out when this step is no longer required.
Please reach out to your candidates who are in the onboarding process with original invitations to instruct them to complete this required step. Candidates completing additional onboarding invitations are not required to complete the 2020 W-4 form.
Existing employees are not required to make any updates to their W-4 withholding information. If an existing employee would like to make a change to their federal withholding, the 2020 W-4 is required and can be completed through Employee Self Service in the myFSU portal.
