Hi HPC users,

This is the final reminder that the HPC will be unavailable starting tomorrow, Sunday, December 3 through Thursday, December 7 for a planned software upgrade<https://its.fsu.edu/article/2023-rcc-software-upgrade-announcement>.

We have set all compute nodes to "DRAIN" state as of yesterday afternoon (Friday, Dec 1). In this state, they are not accepting new job submissions. If any jobs are still running tomorrow morning, they will be killed, and you will need to resubmit them once maintenance is complete.

Services Affected

The following services will be offline during the maintenance period.

  * High Performance Computing Cluster (HPC)
  *   Open OnDemand
  *   Spear Nodes

Parallel Storage (GPFS) will continue to be available, but access through the HPC login nodes will be unavailable. You will instead need to use the storage export node (export.rcc.fsu.edu<https://docs.rcc.fsu.edu/storage/data-transfer/>).

Services Unaffected
The following services will be unaffected by the maintenance.

  *   Archival Storage
  *   Globus
  *   Virtual Machines
  * Data Center Services / Academic Colocation

Please be aware of the following:

  * We are upgrading the default GNU compiler from version 8.3 to version 8.5. You may need to recompile your C/C++/Fortran code if you are using the GNU compilers.
  *
We cannot guarantee all libraries will be available immediately after the upgrade. Please review the list below the signature in this email and contact us<mailto:support at rcc.fsu.edu> if you need us to prioritize any of them.
  * If you need a newer version of Python (>3.6), we recommend installing it in a Conda environment. You can install any newer version up to and including Python 3.12. Instructions are on our website<https://docs.rcc.fsu.edu/software/python/#using-newer-versions-of-python-on-the-hpc>.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns: support at rcc.fsu.edu<mailto:support at rcc.fsu.edu>.

Best regards,
The RCC Team
