/Our team is seeking early career mathematics teachers (Grades 6-12) who 
are within their first three years of teaching to participate in a 
research study. If you have contact with teachers, please share the

For the past seven years, our ESTEEM project

worked to enhance statistics teacher education through research and 
curriculum development. Our newly-funded ESTEEM II project will include 
new opportunities to engage teacher educators in professional 
development, create new resources for teaching data science and 
statistics, and foster research opportunities for our team and others.

However, one of the first steps in our new grant is to conduct two 
system studies – one focusing on early career mathematics teachers and a 
second focusing on mathematics teacher preparation programs.

We hope to investigate the knowledge, beliefs/attitudes, and 
instructional practices regarding data and statistics of Grades 6-12 
teachers who are in their first three years of teaching. Participating 
teachers should have some responsibility for teaching statistics or data 
analysis, even if that is a single unit/lesson in their curriculum. 
Participating teachers will be compensated $150 for completing five 
surveys/assessments. The total time to complete these surveys is 
approximately 1 hour and 42 minutes to 1 hour and 47 minutes.

*We need your help! *We hope you can help us identify teachers within 
their first three years. You can help us in one of two ways – 1) you can 
provide us with contact information (i.e., name & email addresses) of 
early career mathematics teachers to rhudson at usi.edu or 
gemma_mojica at ncsu.edu, and we will reach out to them; or 2) you can send 
the recruitment flyer attached to your contacts.

We appreciate your support in helping us to identify participants for 
this important study!
