Hi FACRL Board,

I attended a virtual town meeting with United Faculty of Florida and two legislators today.  I brought up the matter of FLVC and FALSC.  The legislators in attendance didn't know much about it.  There were not many librarians in attendance, but there were a few of us who shared that the loss of the Complete Florida Plus Program WILL have a devastating effect academic libraries statewide.

I guess I was fairly persuasive, because the facilitator called me after the meeting and said that Florida Representative Loranne Ausley wants to talk about it more on the phone tomorrow.

Within the embedded PDF document, page 16 shows the veto for “Specific Appropriation 161A, Aid to Local Governments – Grants and Aids – Complete Florida Plus Program, From General Revenue Fund: $29,390,671.”

If this change stands, FALSC may not survive, which would be devastating for Florida’s libraries.  Elijah urges: “we believe it would be helpful if each of you could contact your administration to make them aware of this veto and of the importance of restoring the Complete Florida Plus Program funding back to the budget in order to preserve FLVC, FALSC, and DLSS.”

As members of the FACRL board, perhaps we should unite in a message to the Governor’s office as well as considering other measures of support?
