Dear Deborah ,

Help us show how libraries are crucial to recovery for Florida communities!  We need your help to produce a short video that will deliver an entertaining and illustrative message to our Florida legislators. This video won’t replace any of the valuable, personal meetings you can schedule with your representatives; however, in-person visits at the Capitol – Library Legislative Day - will likely NOT be scheduled during the 2021 legislative session and we don’t want to miss the opportunity to brag about our amazing libraries!!

Our goal is to provide all libraries with an appealing video that you can share with your legislator in addition to the notes and other materials you may share. If we can’t meet them in person let’s deliver our stories to their desktops and phones with a virtual message that describes “Ten Reasons Libraries are Crucial to Recovery!”

  *   Free resources for Pre-K, K-12 & college students

  *   Study space and collaborative areas

  *   Assist with reemployment and job seeking opportunities

  *   Homework and research assistance

  *   Basic computer skills training

  *   Support for virtual lifelong learning

  *   Assistance with access to State benefit programs

  *   Enriching activities for students and early learners and introducing the love of reading

How you can get involved:

We need impactful stories of libraries and our library users from across the state, illustrating these bullet points from our legislative platform.

For instance, you can submit a testimonial from a mother, a small business owner, a job seeker, or a student, etc., telling their story of how their local library met their needs. You might provide a short clip of students using a maker space, or children learning to code.

And don’t worry!!  If you may have a great idea for a video from your library but need help getting it filmed, just let us know and we will get the job done!

Our submission deadline – for you to upload your library videos to our submission portal - is January 15, 2021. We will professionally edit your stories into a statewide library story that shows how libraries have contributed to the critical needs of our communities as crucial contributors to Florida’s recovery from impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
