[Fla-facrlboard] Possible FACRL Conference Themes

Hi all,
I agree that all three themes are highly relevant. Personally, I have a preference for option 1 because I think it’s important to use a conference like FACRL to talk about how we can develop capacity and talent for Florida’s academic libraries. Aside from SSLLI there doesn’t seem to be much happening in the state.
That being said, I think the topic of innovation is always interesting and certainly broad enough to attract attention. Impact is also of the utmost importance, and a topic that all libraries I know of are struggling with (assuming they even dare to wade into those waters and try figuring out how to measure impact).
In other words, I don’t think we can go wrong with any of the topics above.
Best regards,
M

Hello,
I agree with others about using #3. I believe that the themes mentioned below it are those that I heard spoken of most often when I am with other librarians (from different universities as well as within my own university) and they seem to be on their librarians' radar at this time.

Love these themes! I really like theme #3 the best, I agree that will offer a lot of opportunity for different sessions and posters. I can see how combining themes #2 and #3 could work as well though as Guy suggested.

I think #3 Innovations for Higher Ed offers the most opportunity for sessions and posters. Even combining #2 and #3 would work: Innovation & Impact.
#1 is definitely an important need in my opinion but I don’t think it translates to sessions for a one-day conference as well as the others. However, I think it would be a great idea to put together a year-long campaign on helping FACRL members (and potential members) through shared content of webinars, articles, and other resources relating to Professionalism in Academic Libraries.

Guy

Good afternoon,
Cristy and I have brainstormed some ideas for this year’s conference theme and I thought it might be good for us to choose something as a Board so that we can have something to post to the site as well as place into a call for the programming committee.
We mined these from last year’s assessments/feedback and organized the ones we liked best into three categories. We can further polish whichever theme that the Board might choose into a working conference program title/theme:
1. Professionalism in Academic Libraries
* leadership skills
* day-to-day best practices
* mentorship
* succession planning
* team cohesion & morale
2. Library Impact
* service design
* assessment of library resources & services
* institutional & community engagement
3. Innovations for Higher Ed
* challenge & change to traditional services
* open access & OERs
* copyright
* technological innovations
* new models for data management
I appreciate any feedback, edits, or suggestions you might have. We could certainly explore other options if you already have a theme in mind and would be willing to share.
Thank you,
