I recall from last year that the coffee break was originally scheduled for 1 hour when we signed up but was changed to 30 minutes before the conference. FLA has sincerely appreciated our support and sponsorship and I believe this gesture has resulted in a willingness to collaborate on other requests/opportunities. We have been fortunate over the past few years to secure the coffee break prior to the opening session and it has become a valuable networking opportunity and a time to promote FACRL programming that occurs later during the conference. I think securing the sponsorship quickly and requesting the opening session timeslot would be a nice gesture to continue the productive and collaborative relationship between FLA and FACRL even at the increased cost. Last year, one piece of feedback that we received was that there was not very much time for the coffee break before the opening FLA conference program. I want to say that it was maybe an hour before attendees were asked to file in to the program hall? Also, wasn?t the $500 fee last year a mark-up from previous years? So, I guess my concern is that unlike vendors, we are representing the state academic association at the state library association?s annual conference. It is not only a lot of the same membership from another division of the same national professional organization, but I think that we promote and add a lot of value to the FLA conference itself. This is maybe a long way of suggesting that we reach out to the FLA sponsorships committee and ask them about a different rate and type of collaboration for other professional library organizations. For example, we could help sponsor or promote a plug for FLA at the FACRL Annual program. What do you all think? Last year, one piece of feedback that we received was that there was not very much time for the coffee break before the opening FLA conference program. I want to say that it was maybe an hour before attendees were asked to file in to the program hall? Also, wasn?t the $500 fee last year a mark-up from previous years? So, I guess my concern is that unlike vendors, we are representing the state academic association at the state library association?s annual conference. This is maybe a long way of suggesting that we reach out to the FLA sponsorships committee and ask them about a different rate and type of collaboration for other professional library organizations. There was a lower acceptance rate than usual (23%) for this ACRL Division submission, though I feel that this is still a big loss for ALA Annual attendees. The ACRL Professional Development Committee (PDC) has completed the review and selection process. On behalf of PDC, it is with regret that I let you know your proposal, "Telling Our Story: Methods for Demonstrating Libraries' Academic Impact at the Administrative Level ," was not chosen for presentation. Although you may be understandably disappointed that your proposal was not accepted for the conference, please do not consider this a negative evaluation of the quality of your work, but rather an indication of the volume and quality of the proposals submitted. With ALA?s centralized program submission process, ACRL received an exceptionally large number of program proposals for the 21 available slots. This made the review process and decisions very difficult. Only 23% of the submissions were able to be accepted due to the limited number of program slots available to ACRL. Thank you for submitting your work to ACRL and for your interest in the 2019 ALA Annual Conference. From: Alyssa Koclanes Sent: Friday, November 2, 2018 12:48 PM To: Donlan, Rebecca Subject: Acceptance of your FLA Conference Program Proposal Dear Rebecca Donlan, Thank you for submitting a breakout session proposal for the Florida Library Association 2019 Conference to be held at the DoubleTree Hilton at Universal Orlando from May 15th to 17th 2019 in Orlando, Florida. As Chair of the FLA Conference Planning Committee I am very pleased to inform you that your program proposal: Even the Odds: Libraries Solving the Student Textbook Problem has been accepted. We received a large number of proposals this year and, although it was challenging to select from so many impressive proposals, we feel that we have a really strong slate of programs this year, including yours. On behalf of the Conference Committee, we are very happy that you will be joining us for this wonderful learning event. By Friday, November 16, 2018 at 5 p.m., please complete this brief online form (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__goo.gl_forms_Kkjvwyz1H7elVlRz2&d=DwIGaQ&c=HPMtquzZjKY31rtkyGRFnQ&r=ErNLMQvDS5BZrIZeelL-Nylx-JsCfC_BTnGrpOVKn70&m=BtGloyABpOXSfK_C0SfjlkgdyeFy5ngqw4-rwcF5BVE&s=rTc284tL0KgiZE870zIaCtbPWCfD_ix5Ywj98COQn78&e=) to confirm that you plan to present this program at the 2019 conference or to notify us that you are no longer able to present the program. On the form we also ask you to provide an updated description of your program, no longer than 50 words/300 characters for the final conference program. FLA reserves the right to edit program descriptions for content and length. Before confirming that you will be presenting at the conference, please check with your presenters to ensure they are still able to participate. Please remind your speakers of the following important points: 1. All presenters and organizers employed in Florida libraries are required to complete a paid registration for the conference. FLA members receive a discount on conference registration, so those who are not currently members of FLA may want to join on the FLA website. ?Speaker Only? registration (i.e. complimentary registration to attend only the single program where speaking) may be requested for speakers who are not affiliated with or employed in a Florida library or library-related organization. This designation does not include other conference programs or events. Program organizers must designate in the program confirmation form whether complimentary conference registration is requested for a speaker. The FLA Executive Director will determine whether a speaker is eligible for this category. 2. FLA does not provide laptop computers for presenters to use. Please bring your own computer and make sure you download pertinent applications/programs in case Internet connectivity is down. FLA will provide a meeting room set with a projector, screen, internet and one microphone for large rooms of 100+ Anyone using a non-PC computer must also provide a an adapter for connection to an LCD projector. We hope to have the Preliminary Conference Program on the FLA web page soon. You will receive a message at that time asking you to check your program listing for accuracy. We will be in touch with you several other times before the conference. Please pass these messages along to your speakers so they will be well-prepared for the conference. We are still finalizing the schedule and will notify you shortly with the date and time of your program. If you have questions or concerns, please contact myself or Karen Layton (karen at flalib.org, 850-270-9205) at the FLA Office. I look forward to seeing you at FLA?s 2019 Conference! I believe our program submission was of a very high quality, though maybe with the low acceptance rate that ACRL had this year and the thematic difference, it just wasn't our year. I do recommend that we submit another proposal to the ACRL Division for ALA Annual 2020 on behalf of FACRL next year. It's a great way to showcase our local talents to the national division. Unfortunately, it appears that our break-out session proposal to present was not chosen. There was a lower acceptance rate than usual (23%) for this ACRL Division submission, though I feel that this is still a big loss for ALA Annual attendees. Your work is high quality and relevant to all academic libraries and I hope that we might be able to tap into your talents as possible presenters in future. With ALA's centralized program submission process, ACRL received an exceptionally large number of program proposals for the 21 available slots. This made the review process and decisions very difficult. Only 23% of the submissions were able to be accepted due to the limited number of program slots available to ACRL. Thank you for submitting your work to ACRL and for your interest in the 2019 ALA Annual Conference. I did receive 1 edit request for the image from yesterday and have a new possible mock-up we can use, but I used the approved one for setting up the website today. The 2nd option is below (the change is the subtitle capitalization and bold font of ?FOR LIBRARIES AND LIBRARY STAFF?). [cid:image001.jpg at 01D47C33.32E790C0] Thank you! Jaime Jaime M.
